Funeral of Stephen Biko

Funeral of Stephen Biko

Mourners transport the coffin of Stephen Bantu Biko in an ox cart in King William's Town, South Africa. Steve Biko (1946-1977) was a founder and leader of the Black Consciousness Movement in South Africa. He was injured and sustained brain damage in prison and died hours later. His work and early death made him one of the most influential and inspirational martyrs in the anti-apartheid movement.
