The former President Jiang often aimed to equate himself with his two most illustrious predecessors as great leaders of a growing China. Jiang has finally relinquished his last formal position of power, that of Chairman of the Central Military Commission though analysts expect he will continue to be able to exercise considerable influence on the course of state policy for some time.
