Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas during the swearing-in ceremony in his Ramallah, West Bank headquarters of the Hamas-dominated Palestinian Legislative Council. Of the 134 lawmakers, 74 are from the fundamentalist Hamas movement. In his speech Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, stressed that the new Palestinian government must abide by its previous committments with Israel and the international community.
