Artist's workshop in Dashanzi. This old Soviet industrial factory has been partly transformed into an art gallery, artists studios, art library, magazine stand, complete with bars and restaurants. Exhibitions, cocktail parties and events are a regular feature in the space. Things move so quickly in China that the site has become a tourist complex with sometimes more foreigners than Chinese - an avant-garde gallery that has become a victim of it's own incredible success. Galeries throughout the world are setting up shop within its walls, with a hefty price tag attached. Most well-known Chinese artists have already moved out, to villages further away from Beijing to escape the "arty" crowds and frenzy.
