China - Peasants collect snow to stock in underground reservoirs
Guo Yang Wa village in Ningxia province in Yuwang county. The lack of water has forced peasants to collect snow to stock in underground reservoirs. The central government launched a programme called " Mother Cellar" which aims to build underground store houses capable of holding water for several months. The desertification of this region is extreme and there are no wells, hence no water. puis cinq ans pas une goutte d'eau. There are not trees in the region and crops have been destroyed by the lack of water. Snowfall was greeted with relief by the locals. The only form of revenue for families is tree planting with saplings ordered by the government for reforestation purposes. The only way to access water is for peasants to buy water delivered by lorry.
