Grotto in Luo Quan Wan village. Food reserves for the year ahead are stored in an underground cave. If inhabitants do not find work their family, they can dip into these emergency rations. Most of the time, adults from the family will find work in neighbouring provinces. However, thesedays work accidents are commonplace and work invalidity often plunges a family into despair. The average family will begin the day with a bowl of millet with a little flour to make it more consistent. Lunch is normally a bowl of wheatflour noodles with some potatoes. They do not eat dinner.
