China - Interiors of Chinese Peasant Homes

A Muslim family in Liu Miao village. Most houses are built in similar styles and feature arched ceilings and rectangular rooms that lead off and inter-connect with vaulted passages. The overall effect is reminiscent of an inhabited cave dwelling. Openings are narrow and the floor often made of clay. In winter, all activities center around the kitchen stove, the warmest place in the house.
