Thailand - HIV Orphans - Village of Hope - Sunflowers
May, an HIV positive 7 year old Thai girl, reaches for a sunflower on a school excursion to the blooming sunflower fields near her home village Baan Gerda (Gerda House), founded by German businessman Karl Morsbach. The village provides shelter to 71 HIV positive orphans, aged 2 -12. Most arrived emaciated and on the verge of death, but are now healthy and facing adolescence thanks to care and antiretroviral drugs. HIV AIDS has left at least 300,000 Thai children orphans.
