Brazil - Poverty - Residents of Occupied Building

The Angelo de Oliveira family take a family portrait in the one-room apartment where they live in the Prestes Maia 911 occupied building in downtown Sao Paolo, Brazil. The building had been abandoned for over 15 years and was occupied by this family and another 1,500 people under the support of the MSTC (Movement for the Roofless Downtown) in an effort to protest and to obtain decent housing. The sqautters took the building due to their inability to pay rent and sustain their families. They have received numerous eviction notices over the years from the city hall.
