Brazil - Poverty - Residents of Occupied Building

A sculptured figure marks a wall on the rooftop of the occupied building known as the Prestes Maia 911, in downtown Sao Paulo, Brazil. Over 1,500 people took over the building in 2003, which had remained abandoned for over 15 years. They were supported by the Movement for the Roofless Downtown (MSTC) in an effort to protest and to obtain proper housing for some 300 families. The building is considered the largest occupation in Latin America.
