Seven-year-old Sara prays in her bed before going to sleep. She is the product of the four-month rape and abduction of her mother Samara. Sara attends a school for talented children supported by a journalist and a therapist, but due to economic strains in the family, has difficulty attending regularly. Maurico frequently physically abuses her in an attempt to control and educate her. Samara accuses Mauricio of having seen him with another woman and not providing for the family. The family lives in the Prestes Maia 911 occupied building in downtown Sao Paulo with another 250 families. Domestic violence is common among families living in tight quarters without privacy.
