Holding their brooms aloft and singing as they walk together, an 'army' of community volunteers in the streets of Site C squatter camp, a section of Khayelitsha, the sprawling shack settlement of nearly half a million people situated on the sandy 'Cape flats' near Cape Town.. The group meets for a morning every week to sweep and clear rubbish off their streets. This photograph was taken as part of the 'Day in the Life of Africa' project.
