South Africa - AIDS - Waterberg Welfare Society Clinic and Hospice

Dr. Peter Farrant takes a closer look at the weight of Hopolang, 6, who contracted HIV from his mother at birth and has been making a remarkable recovery after being diagnosed a year ago. He is one of the clinics success stories at the Waterberg Welfare Society Clinic and Hospice. Farrant, a local orchard owner, is the only doctor in the area and makes visits the clinice once or twice a week. Currently there are 26 AIDS patients at the WWS who are traveling to Nylstroom to get their monthly doses of ARV's because they qualify for having less than 200 CD4 blood cell count. Farrant and his staff hope to begin distribution to their own patients who drop below the 200 mark to keep from driving 70 km to pick them up in person.
