China - Economy - A Migrant Story

Another landmark of their stroll in Bejing is the famous Wangfujing Avenue, the ancient and prestigious shops, nicknamed the Chinese Champs Elysee. Wallmarts are numerous, as are the advertisements for foreign brands. Cai Xingju doesn't know about any of these, but she is impressed by the size of the billboards. Ding Zhifa has been to this street before. He explains to his wife that only rich people can afford shopping, while others, like themselves, come just to admire. But these windowshops don't make them dream. The couple declares that they can't afford to dream and they are living on a day by day basis.
