The indolent atmosphere of the coastal city of Puerto Barrios was smashed on June 18th, 1954 when uprising anti-communist exiles bombed the town and other Guatemalan cities, including the capital. The official Guatemalan radio reported that an invasion from Honduras to oust the leftist government had begun with a 12-plane bombing raid on Guatemala City, Puerto Barrios, and San Jose.
