Italy - 50th Anniversary of the March 1959 Tibet Uprising
Tibetan activists take part in a candlelight vigil near the Colosseum in Rome to mark the 50th anniversary of the March 10, 1959 Tibetan uprising. Every year on March 10th Tibetan exiles around the world remember the day in 1959 when the Chinese launched a crackdown to suppress an uprising in Tibet. Last year bloody riots broke out in Lhasa following peaceful protests marking the uprising. Nearly six million Tibetans live in Tibet under Chinese control while over 150,000 live in other countries, namely Nepal and India.
