A thermal scanner shows students arriving for classes at Republic Polytechnic in Singapore May 6, 2009. The polytechnic is using thermal scanners as part of its efforts to contain any risk of Influenza A (H1N1) and said it would fine students found not carrying their own thermometers S$5 ($3.34) according to local media reports. The World Health Organisation was monitoring the spread of the virus, formerly referred to as swine flu, and said 21 countries have officially reported 1,490 cases.
