US judge rejects Polanski's request to dismiss sex charges

A judge officially rejected Roman Polanski's request for a dismissal of 32-year old child-sex charges on 07 May 2009 after the filmmaker missed a deadline to surrender to US authorities, media report. Media reported on 27 September 2009 that Polanski was arrested in Zurich, Switzerland the previous night in relation to sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1978. Polanski was in Switzerland for the Zurich Film Festival where he had been due to receive a lifetime achievement prize later on 27 September 2009. EPA/ALESSANDRO DI MEO
