On 03 October 2009 Germans celebrate the Day of German Unity, a national holiday that commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990. The reunification of East and West Germany was precipitated by the fall of the Berlin Wall on 09 November 1989. As a symbol for the fall of the Iron Curtain and collapse of Communism in the Eastern Bloc the 20th anniversary of this historic event is marked around the world in 2009. EPA/STR
