Painting of ducks from the Tomb of Userhet

Painting of ducks from the Tomb of Userhet

Detail of a painting from the tomb of Userhet called Neferhabef, TT 51 in the Tombs of the Nobles at Thebes. Many species of birds were known in ancient Egypt, indeed, many were bred domestically. Not all were considered benign, for example, geese were considered evil and ducks as good. There are many remarkable bird paintings in the tombs such as this example from the tomb of Userhet.
