Painting of a pilgrimage to Abydos from the Tomb of Sennefer
Detail of a painting in the Tomb of Sennefer, Mayor of the Southern City, TT 96 in the Tombs of the Nobles in Thebes. We see here a group of Sennefer's followers represented in a detail from the scene of pilgrimage to Abydos. Because Abydos was the place of Osiris, the god of the afterlife, every one in ancient Egypt wanted to be buried with him, and to visit him in the belief that he was buried at Abydos.
