Detail of a statue of Ramesses III from the Mut Precinct at Karnak
Statue of Ramesses III, Twentieth Dynasty, found at the Mut Precinct in Karnak. This statue of king Ramesses III shows him wearing the wig and the ureus, with a broad collar on his neck and a false beard which is now broken. The King's nose is also damaged which often happened to statues in the course of the millennia, however, in some instances breaking off the nose could be used as a serious punishment, which prevented the person from breathing and eating and his life stopped even in the other world.
