Carter is in northern Thailand accompanied by celebrities including Chinese movie star Jet Li and former Japanese soccer star Hidetoshi Nakata to build a community of 82 houses. The number 82 has been chosen to honor the 82nd birthday of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej on 05 December, and the project is a part of 'The 2009 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project: The Mekong Build', which will involve nearly 3,000 volunteers from around the world building and repairing homes in Thailand, Vietnam, China, Cambodia and Laos, all countries along Mekong river.
