Painting underworld deities from the Tomb of Nefertari

Detail of a painting in the Tomb of Nefertari, QV 66 in the Valley of the Queens at Thebes. To have access to the fields of Iaru and to dwell with Osiris, Nefertari had to overcome many trials on her way to the Afterlife. These trials were the domain of the evil genii of the underworld who threaten her long journey through the Netherworld. The only way to save herself and reach the Afterlife safely was to prove that she knew their names and their secrets.
