Democratic Representative Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island announces retirement
epa02027408 (FILE) A file photo dated 05 March 2009 showing US Democratic Senator Edward Kennedy (R) of Massachusetts being applauded by US President Barack Obama (L) as Senator Kennedy's son Democratic Senator Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island looks on during a question and answer session to close the White House forum on health care reform, at the East Room of the White House in Washington, DC, USA. Patrick Kennedy, the son of the late Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, will not seek reelection in autumn 2010, a senior Democrat told media on 12 February 2010. No reason was given for the decision. Patrick Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1994 and his decision to retire will likely leave Congress without a member of the Kennedy clan for the first time since his uncle, John F. Kennedy, was elected to the House of Representatives in 1946. EPA/MICHAEL REYNOL
