American soldiers look at an armored vehicle destroyed during the Persian Gulf War while oil well fires burn in the distance. In August of 1990, Iraqi president Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, causing a coalition of countries to deploy troops into the region to expel Iraq from Kuwait.
