Kenya - Post Election Violence

Kenya - Post Election Violence

Areas of Chepilat burn in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya in February 2008. Burning homes, set on fire by the Kalanjin tribe, forced residents of both the Kisii and the Kikuyu tribes to flee. Battles rage along the street daily between Kalanjin and Kisii warriors. The recent ethnic violence was triggered by disputed presidential election results, when incumbent President Mwai Kibaki, of the Kikuyu tribe, won over Raila Odinga, of the Luo, in December 2007.
