China braces for Year of the Dragon

Pedestrians look at a huge dragon comprising more than 3,000 lanterns, which measures 39.06 meters long, 11.61 meters wide and 13.25 meters tall, in front of the Yongding Gate in Beijing, China, 7 January 2012. The Chinese Lunar New Year, or the Spring Festival, begins on January 23 and marks the start of the Year of the Dragon, according to the Chinese zodiac. The Dragon is one of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar, and the only animal that is legendary.
