Coloured naked people pose for the camera shortly after taking part in a 850 strong naked installation for artist Spencer Tunick. The atmosphere during the installation is euphoric. It’s not erotic, dirty or hippie. It’s all very British and it’s jolly good fun. “I never knew that the side-effect of people posing nude together would be so empowering,” says Tunick, “that it would change even the hippest of mindsets. From what people have told me, it is this mind-altering experience that brings you close to the earth and your neighbour. It’s a euphoric feeling. It’s sort of addictive.” Spencer Tunick is an artist famous for making art from groups of naked people, such as installations where 18 000 people crouched in the foetal position in Mexico, hundreds stripped on a glacier for Greenpeace and 5000 streaked outside the Sydney Opera house.
