.An armed American Training contractor watches Afghan Public Protection Force recruits during weapons training at the APPF training ground outside Kabul, Saturday. The weapons were not loaded.. .President Hamid Karzai in 2009, ordered the disbanding of Private Security Companies who have long provided thousands of armed guards for aid organizations and other installations Afghanistan, and particularly Kabul. With the March 20, 2012 deadline approaching, the replacement force that President Karzai ordered created, the Afghan Public Protection Force, is still in the process of being trained. With 8,000 APPF officers presently trained, the force will be in charge of escorting NATO supplies, as well as protecting Aid Agencies operating inside Afghanistan.
