Russian gay activist sues politician for million roubles

ITAR-TASS: ST PETERSBURG, RUSSIA. APRIL 4, 2012. Nikolai Alekseev (Nikolay Alexeev), Russia's prominent advocate of gay rights (the GayRussia.Ru movement), (L), seen outside St. Petersburg Oktyabrsky District Court. Mr. Alekseyev has filed an anti-defamation lawsuit against homophobe MP Vitaly Milonov, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg and United Russia party member, the author of the new bill on homosexual propaganda. St. Petersburg governor Georgy Poltavchenko signed the document that prohibited the propaganda of homosexual and pedophilic activities in St Petersburg. The gay activist claims Milonov has inflicted damage to his honor and dignity personally and demands 1 million rubles (33,929.92 USD) in compensation. Vitaly Milonov called Alekseyev ‘a woman/a girl' on television and also said that he has been financed by organizations in Brussels, including the Commission of the EU.
