Syrian parliamentary election begin amid heavy security

epa03209343 Syrians seen at a polling station in Damascus, Syria, as Syrians across the country begin voting on 07 May 2012 in parliamentary elections. Polls opened amid tight security and ongoing unrest in some parts of the country. State television showed voters queueing at polling station since early morning. The election initially scheduled for September was postponed due to the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad. The UN estimates that 9,000 people have died in the unrest since March 2011. A total of 7,195 candidates including 710 women registered to contest the 250 seats, according to state news agency SANA. EPA/YOUSSEF BADAWI
