Syrian parliamentary election begin amid heavy security

Polls opened amid tight security and ongoing unrest in some parts of the country. State television showed voters queueing at polling station since early morning. The election initially scheduled for September was postponed due to the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad. The UN estimates that 9,000 people have died in the unrest since March 2011.
