Assange seeks refuge in Ecuador's embassy in London
epa03274439 Wikileaks spokesperson Kristinn Hransfsonn speaks to reporters outside Ecuador's embassy, where Wikileaks founder has sought political asylum in London, Britain, 20 June 2012. The legal battle against extradition by Julian Assange took a further twist as the WikiLeaks founder sought refuge in the Ecuadorean embassy in London while being threatened with arrest by police. Assange, 40, faces extradition to Sweden on allegations of sexual assault, after Britain's Supreme Court rejected his final appeal last week. A 10-day period of extradition begins on June 28. His arrival at the embassy was confirmed late Tuesday by Ricardo Patino, Ecuador's Foreign Minister, in Quito. He said Assange, an Australian citizen, had requested political asylum.
