Acres of burned trees in Pike National Forest sit next to acres that remain untouched from the Waldo Canyon Fire that forced the evacuation of more than 36,000 Colorado Springs residents. The size of the fire is approximately 18,247 acres. The fire started three miles west of Colorado Springs on June 23, 2012. As of July 5, the fire is more than than 90% contained. 1,500 firefighters were in Colorado Springs from around the country, and currently, 776 remain in the area.
