U.S. Forest Service servicemen, firefighters, and responders patrol Pike National Forest and manage "hotspots" in the ground after The Waldo Canyon fire, which burned 18,247 acres, started three miles west of Colorado Springs on June 23, 2012. As of July 5, the fire is still burning but more than 90% contained. 1,500 firefighters and responders aided in efforts, and currently, 776 remain in the area.
