Drought on Mississippi River and farmland

Drought on Mississippi River and farmland

The extended drought has lowered the Mississippi River to as low as 9 feet in some spots causing traffic jams and some barges to run aground. Those ships that do pass are only able to fill to partial capacity in order to lighten their loads. The loss in productivity is costing barge operators up to $10,000.00 a day.
