Jute production in Assam

Reports state that Jute cultivation is one of the most profitable and widely practices business in Assam state. Despite floods affecting about 10,000 hectares of cropland, Assam hopes to register record paddy and jute production in 2012 according to official sources. According to the Assam Agriculture department, Assam expects to produce about 300,000 bales of jute in 2012, compared to 200,000 bales in 2011. EPA/STR
