Jailhouse Ruins, Rhyolite Ghost Town, Nevada

Rhyolite is a ghost town just outside of Beatty, Nevada. It's about 5 miles east of Death Valley National Park. The jail opened in 1907, a year in which Rhyolite boasted a population of approximately 10,000 residents. During its peak, Rhyolite was your typical gold-mining town with 45 saloons and over 85 mining companies in the area. In 1915, a mere 8 years later, Rhyolite's population had dwindled to 20. Its last resident died in 1924.
