Teakettle Junction, Death Valley National Park, California
Teakettle Junction is located along Death Valley's infamous washboard road to the Racetrack. I'm not sure how the tradition began, but travelers along the road will sometimes stop and hang a teakettle on the sign. The donors usually sign and date the kettle, leaving their own unique memorial signifying successful passage on the bone-jarring road. The Racetrack is justifiably famous, but the drive to the Racetrack is just as cool in my opinion.
