Dec. 14, 2012 - Bakthapur, bakthapur, Nepal - A child holds her sibling toddler on her back at the brick kiln in Bakthapur..In Nepal there are about 750 brick factories, while only 450 are registered with the government. There are 110 brick factories in Kathmandu valley while 64 in Bakthapur district. None of the factories meet standards of Ministry for Industry for safety working environment..500 children are working in brick kilns 52 percent of them are under age of 10. Kilns hire seasonal workers from other districts through middleman who get great amount from workers earnings..By making bricks, workers earn Rs. 600 (under 6 USD) for 1000 pieces of bricks. In a day, one family makes about 2000-2500 bricks. One brick at the market is sold for Rs.10 ( 0.11 cents USD)..According to the government laws, the small cottage industries in Nepal are exempt from taxes.
