In Amenas

epa03544679 Two British 53 years old former hostages, employees of British Petrolum who were released a day earlier from a gas facility, speak to journalists, at a police station in In Amenas, about 1300km Southeast of Algiers, Algeria, 19 January 2013. The Algerian military launched a 'final assault' on 19 January to end a four-day hostage standoff at a remote gas facility in the Sahara desert, with state news agency APS reporting that 11 captors were killed. Seven hostages three Belgians, two Americans, a Briton and a Japanese were executed, the El Watan newspaper reported, by the Islamist insurgents before the military stormed the facility. EPA/STR
