Alabama Education Fight

Alabama Education Fight

In this Tuesday, April 16, 2013 photo, Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh, R-Anniston, addresses lawmakers during a meeting of the Senate Education Committee at the Alabama Statehouse in Montgomery, Ala. The Alabama Education Association was once the unquestioned power in the Alabama statehouse. But that's changed since Republicans won a supermajority in the House and Senate in 2010. Republicans like Marsh have pushed changes to teacher tenure. They've tried to block AEA from collecting dues through the state payroll system. And, this year, they've adopted plans to direct public money to private schools through tuition scholarship programs and tax breaks for families paying tuition themselves. (AP Photo/Dave Martin)
