Injection. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a needle piercing the skin. Needles are used in combination with syringes to administer drugs, such as anaesthetics or vaccines, to subcutaneous tissue or the venous system. They are also used to insert catheters or to take samples of blood for analysis.
