Veteran storm chaser Tim Samaras prepares to intercept a storm in South Dakota in 2005. Samaras, an esteemed scientist and noted tornado researcher, died with his son Paul and longtime chase partner Carl Young while intercepting a violent twister near El Reno, Oklahoma on May 31, 2013. One of the world's best-known storm chasers, Samaras received 18 grants for field work from The Narional Geograohic Society over the years.
