The family of Ayoub Kamhan enters the main gate of Zaatari camp after trying to find work in Jordan's countryside for two months before returning back to the camp without being paid for their work, Jordan, April 7, 2013. The family fled fighting in Daraa, Syria roughly three months before, lived in the camp for twenty days before trying to make a living in Jordan--and eventually gave up, and returned back to the camp. An estimated 100,000 Syrian refugees live in the camp, and more arrive each day through official and unofficial border crossings between Syria and Jordan as the civil war in Syria enters its third year. The United Nations estimates that the number of Syrian refugees is currently over one million.
