Colossal statue of Maitreya Buddha, Diskit gompa, Ladakh, India
Diskit, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, India, South Asia. The 32 metre (106 foot) high statue of Maitreya Buddha is situated on a hill below Diskit monastery and on the grounds of the monastery complex. Construction of the statue began in 2006 and was consecrated by the Dalai Lama on 25 July 2010. Diskit gompa was founded in the 14th century and is the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery (gompa) in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, northern India
