Surin, Thailand. 6th September 2013 -- An elephant stands tethered to a tree near to the house of its owner at Ban Tha Klang village in Surin. The village has been caring for elephants for hundreds of years and a stipend is paid for each animal by the local government. -- Ban Tha Klang Elephant village forms part of an ancient Kui community that has raised elephants for hundreds of years. The Kui reject the employment of elephants in hard labour such as logging, which is more popular in the north of Thailand.
