Washington, United States. 1st October 2013 -- As part of the US Federal Government shutdown, the World War II Memorial was closed and barricaded to prevent entry. Signs on the barricades read Because of the Federal Government's SHUTDOWN, All National Parks Are CLOSED.. -- As the National Park Service closed monuments and memorials in the DC area due to the government shutdown, some members of Congress were at the World War II Memorial, which was closed and barricaded to prevent entry.
