Ponies are given their semi-annual medical check on Assateague Island off Virginia
Assateague ponies are herded into a chute to receive their medicine after they were rounded up for an semi-annual check-up on Assateague Island off the Virginia Coast October 26, 2013. The Assateague wild ponies, a huge draw for tourists, have roamed the beaches, pine forest, and salt marsh of Assateague Island since the 1600s. Assateague Island National Seashore has a combined total of over 300 wild ponies in Maryland and Virginia. REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque (UNITED STATES - Tags: ENVIRONMENT ANIMALS SOCIETY TRAVEL)
